Unblocking Creative Obstacles w/Reiki
Kenyatta A.C. Hinkle (Olomidara Yaya) offers long-distance and in-person healing treatments with reiki, crystal therapies, and sound healing. She has been practicing reiki since 2010 (11 years) and became certified in the third degree in September of 2020. Not only has reiki been a guiding force of deep change within her life but she was amazed when she witnessed how using it could also help the plants, animals, geo-stresses, and trauma as well as to soothe nervous systems of loved ones near and far.
What is Reiki?
"Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy.
The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."
A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind, and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security, and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results. Reiki is a simple, natural, and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery." www.reiki.org

My Journey to Becoming A Reiki Master
I am a certified Reiki Master in addition to being a practicing interdisciplinary visual artists, mother, and millions of other roles that I inhabit. I came to reiki with an intense curiosity after randomly finding a book on it in the New York Public Library in Brooklyn while in art school. It had seemed so familiar to me and made sense in terms of being able to heal yourself and others with simple visualizations and the laying of hands. While riding the subway that same day that I discovered the book I met a reiki master on the train ride home! Because I was raised Southern baptist I was like, "Oh this is what Jesus did! Duh!" Alas, she did not become my official reiki master but the synchronicities that I should be walking this path were so abundantly clear. About two years later while attending grad school at CalArts I decided for my 24th birthday in 2011 that I was going to learn how to give reiki to myself and others so I booked my very first reiki session and reiki 1 training in the Usui traditional method. I was able to achieve deep healing for many genetic issues that plagued the women in my family for centuries. After learning reiki and giving myself daily treatments I literally worked my body into stasis to become fertile and I became a mother! I am not saying that this will be the case for anyone who is seeking to become pregnant but I strongly felt that this helped a great deal as well as my first reiki master encouraging me to start doing Kundalini yoga which was an absolute game-changer!
Trust me I did not want to in terms of offering treatments for others but I realized that so many of us creatives and non-creatives endure so many blockages within our chakras. The societies that we live in are not conducive to bodies that are disease, stress, and worry-free. I used to think that was not a possibility for me or that it would just be a temporary respite and then I would have to start all over again. It is a constant battle that we often feel like we are losing daily. When you wake up to a daily losing battle there is no way to replenish and recharge and stagnation starts to set in. This could be the danger zone if you are a creator and you have so many ideas, dreams, and pursuits that are clogged within your system.
What I find that is so powerful about reiki is it helps to clear out those blockages and restore your chakras. One cannot focus on anything else if the body, mind, and spirit are in pain. You will feel as if your life is passing you by and can barely keep up with the time because you have been so focused on trying to manage the pain instead of getting to the root cause of it. Some of our pain is physical, some of it could be transgenerational memories that we are holding on to. Reiki helped me to not only identify what I had been holding on to but also send it some loving energy so that it could be released back to The Source and turned into something else that could be useful.
So many of my clients come to me because they are undergoing major life changes concerning break-ups, having trouble with saying no and needing deep healing from assault and trauma.

"I had the great fortune to spend three weeks with Kenyatta at an art residency in Florida. We developed a routine almost immediately of sharing stories. Hers were deeply intuitive, rooted in connections to ancestors and the divine. She seemed to be constantly and joyfully receiving and then necessarily sharing these messages for the greater good. She called them “ghost stories” but they are so much more - they are the things most of us can’t or won’t face and integrate and therefore remain stuck; forestalling both personal and collective healing. It took me five years to face my ghosts, but with Kenyatta as my guide, a whole portal has opened: connections to my ancestors, the forces that surround me always that Kenyatta described as “wanting to see me do well.” There was so much love in what she uncovered, so much irresistible divine energy that couldn’t help but evaporate stored up resentments, disappointments, deep seeded feelings of aloneness and inadequacy. Working with Kenyatta showed me how powerful we all are - how much love drives our need to be artists, and how important (and brave) it is to open up to receiving it. I’m so lucky to call her my friend. But she’s more than that: she’s a loving force for all humanity, bringing the change this world so desperately needs, one reading at a time."
