About the event

Learn how to make your own brushes from natural tools inspired by the resistance of Black women historically and presently to create and fashion their tools for resiliency and thriving under dire circumstances. Objects around your home, in your garden, on the street, and in your backyard can be used to create new tools of self-expression!

Hinkle-Yaya will share intimate details of her practice and how she created an internationally acclaimed body of work by decolonizing her brushes! She will also share brushes that have been created by others historically and presently, and participants will be tasked with foraging for their own materials and collectively drawing and exploring together.
