I am always haunted by the wise words of my great great Uncle Tony when a family heirloom was lost. He said, “You got to look where it ain’t.” Looking where it ain’t has taken my practice into various research institutions such as the Getty Research Institute and The Schomberg Center for Research in Black Culture. Archives are important tools within my practice for unearthing stories and perspectives that do not get told. I make work that allows the dead to talk.
